HANDLING OF FERROUS MATERIALS

GAUSS MAGNETI designs and manufactures special

nnnn

deep field electromagnets for handling of 6 to 24

nnnn

meters long ferrous bundles and packs. In design the

nnnn

magnet and beam weights are carefully calculated in

nnnn

order to use at best the lifting device capacity.

nnnn

They are mainly used for the following applications:

nnnn

• Unloading of wire rod, rolled, drawn and profiled

nnnn

parts, pipes (also hot materials)

nnnn

• Loading and unloading of lorries, rail containers,

nnnn

ships.

nnnn

• Stocking in stores or warehouses

nnnn

The use of electromagnets makes the handling

nnnn

of these long materials more rational, with low

nnnn

requirement of personnel and greater safety, as the

nnnn

operators no longer have to approach the load neither

nnnn

to climb on it. No spacer between the bundles or the

nnnn

single product is any longer needed with consequent

nnnn

better exploitation of the available stock space.

nnnn

The electromagnets are hung under a beam

nnnn

by means of chains allowing them to fit on the

nnnn

bundles irregularities. Depending on the need, the

nnnn

electromagnets are designed with more active

nnnn

polarities and then higher safety degree.

nnnn

Main technical features of our deep fields

nnnn

electromagnets are:

nnnn

• Magnetic circuit in deep welded high magnetic

nnnn

permeability steel plate

nnnn

• Outside frame in % manganese steel.

nnnn

• Coil in electrolytic aluminum or copper band designed for a very low current density and consequent

nnnn

good Joule heat dispersion.

nnnn

• C class insulation (220 °C)

nnnn

• Double bottom plate (only high-temperature magnets) in 12% manganese steel.

nnnn

• Thermal insulation (only high-temperature magnets)

nnnn

• Hanging by means of 4 branches chains in grade 8 steel,

nnnn

The magnets are arranged under a fixed or an extensible beam allowing the magnets distance to be

nnnn

adjusted according to the bundles dimensions.

nnnn

As handling with a single hook would be particularly difficult requiring also the presence of a second

nnnn

operator on ground, it is advisable to handle these loads with a 2 hooks crane, granting the load to lay

nnnn

horizontally and hampering also possible oscillations.

nnnn
