A recent innovation has stirred up a lot of excitement in many industries that rely on high viscosity mixers - the new Ross DPM Double Planetary mixer. The New In-line SLIM Wets Out the Powders | |||||||||||||||
Anyone who has watched fumed silica float on the surface of a liquid batch has seen a great opportunity to cut processing costs. Even when generating a strong vortex in a vessel with a turbine or high speed disperser, powders such as fumed silica, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, gums or thickeners still resist wetting out. They can float like soap suds on the surface for 15 minutes, an hour or even longer - pushing up costs and holding down production Ross's new In-line rotor/stator mixer with Solid/Liquid Injection Manifold (SLIM) technology can simplify powder induction and shorten mixing cycles significantly. The mixer is equipped with Progressive Spiral Porting and a unique rotor/stator generator that creates a vacuum strong enough to draw solid additions directly into the high-shear zone and eliminate surface float. With excellent control over the Inlet flow, the In-Llne SLIM system is | capable of adding a high volume of powders to the stream. The new In-Line SLIM system can also reduce "dusting" - and the risk of potentially hazardous particles airborne In the plant atmosphere. When lightweight powders are poured into a vessel or hopper, they often release a cloud of dust Into the air. This can present a serious respiratory hazard for the operator and others in the plant. In significant concentrations, It can also be explosive. Adding powders with the SLIM vacuum injection system virtually eliminates this risk, since few particles become airborne.
