Delphi Differential Pressure Sensor
The Delphi Differential Pressure Sensor, or "Delta P Sensor,"
provides a voltage output to an engine management system
proportional to the differential pressure (∆ p) between two sources.
The sensor is designed primarily for use in diesel engine
applications to signal the need for regeneration of the system's
particulate filter, or soot trap.
Since a diesel engine produces a greater volume of particulate
matter than a gasoline engine, it typically requires a trap (filter) to
minimize particulate exhaust emissions. As matter produced by
combustion accumulates in the particulate trap, the pressure
differential across the trap increases. The Delphi Differential
Pressure Sensor precisely measures the status of the matter
blockage in the particulate trap and provides input to the engine
management system to initiate regeneration, or a burn-off of the
excess particulates in the trap. This process enables the diesel
engine management system to maintain the required limit of
particulate matter emissions.
