PARALIGN - Measurement of a rotogravure printing machine0 pages
Measurement of a rotogravure printing machine
Within a new print job increasing maculature
occurred. Thus the printing plant suffered from
higher material costs and decreasing machine
availability. The production manager assumed
insufficient roll alignment to be the reason.
In the picture to the right the compact construction of a printing unit is shown; in total this
printing machine counts eight of such units.
By tapping with dial gauges rolls close to each
other can be measured easily, but the parallelism
measurement between the cooling cylinder in
the upper part of the machine and the printing
cylinder in the lower part is hardly possible. Thus
the production management decided to order
a PARALIGN® service for roll alignment. With
PARALIGN® all rolls can be measured without any
loss of accuracy, also the ones hardly accessible
with traditional systems.
During a regular maintenance downtime all 120
rolls of the machine were measured. According
to the instantly available results offsets were
corrected by an installation company. In close
collaboration with PRÜFTECHNIK experts the
corrections were verified and documented.
After the alignment the customer reported
smooth product changes, less maculature and
improved printing quality. The next page shows
parts of the PARALIGN® protocols before and
after the alignment.
