Measurement of a Blown Foil Extrusion Line
In a blown foil extrusion line, as a consequence
of misaligned rolls, one side of the web was
extended compared to the other side, and a so
called “long side” occurred. Thus the winding
was asymmetric and the product showed folds.
As this lack of product quality affected the
following production steps, the waste production was very high.
The traditional way of measurement, for
example by enlacement, works only on the
same level. For the measurement over several
levels it is very hard to place the measuring tape
around the rolls.
For optics it is also very hard to access the rolls
in higher levels as they are behind housings or
in different floors.
Due to the insufficiency of traditional systems
the production manager chose PARALIGN® as an
alternative. PARALIGN® requires no mechanical
connection or line of sight between the rolls.
In only a few hours the machine was measured
completely.
After measuring all rolls the misalignments were
corrected and verified by a second measurement
on the same day. The winding unit was chosen
as a reference.
One week after the service the customer confirmed that the folds production was reduced to
a minimum. A clear quality improvement was
seen after the PARALIGN® service.

the offsets of the rolls on top of the machine
are shown.
The shown protocol is not a particular case
on especially this machine. Such offsets are
regularly found by our PARALIGN® services.
