Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Auxiliary Power Unit
The Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Auxiliary Power Unit
(APU) is a high-efficiency electrochemical generator designed to
provide up to 5 kW of environmentally friendly electrical power for
a wide range of transportation and stationary applications.
As a result of its fuel flexibility, the Delphi SOFC APU can be
engineered to use many types of fuels that are currently available,
including natural gas, diesel, bio-diesel, propane, gasoline, coalderived fuel and military logistics fuel. Since the fuel is converted
directly to electricity without combustion, the Delphi SOFC APU
operates at a higher efficiency than traditional internal combustion
engines, while at the same time eliminating nearly all pollutants
and noise.

the transportation industry.
Delphi is working under the
U.S. Department of Energy
Solid State Energy
Conversion Alliance (SECA)
project to develop its SOFC
for use in stationary power
plants.
A demonstration model of the Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Auxiliary Power Unit is
shown mounted to a commercial vehicle.
