The Opportunity
The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola, and is
part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean.
Long known for sugar production, the Dominican Republic’s economy
is now dominated by services and is the most visited destination in the
Caribbean. Tourism is fueling the Dominican Republic's economic growth.
Frequent blackouts and high energy prices
called for a solution to the nation’s energy
shortage. Dresser-Rand was called upon to
help solve these energy issues.
The Solution
Dresser-Rand is providing four Guascor®
SFGLD480 gas generator sets, each with
a power rating of 906 kWb (1,800 rpm) for
the trigeneration plant in this luxurious hotel.
All the energy needs will be met with three
generator sets and will provide a combined
power output of 3.6 MW.
The fourth unit will only be started up as
needed to meet peak energy demands.
Main features of the installation include:
- The main circuit heat is used for heating
water.
- The auxiliary circuit heat is used for fuel
gasification (LNG).
- The exhaust gases from the generator sets
will be recovered to feed an absorption chiller.
