The Opportunity
Launched in 2010, Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme is a
comprehensive plan intended to propel the country’s economy forward.
At the center of the Programme are 131 entry point projects (EPPs). Some
involve large infrastructure investments, while others offer a more direct effect
on the output of their sectors and on the daily lives of the Malaysian population.
A landfill was restored in Pajam, Negeri
Sembilan and transformed into an integrated
renewable energy park.
The Pajam EPP unlocked the economic
potential of landfills, including the use of
biomass, biogas and sunlight to create
renewable energy.
With the country’s growing demand for
energy, landfill restoration presents an
attractive opportunity for Malaysia.
The Solution
The Cypark landfill is the focus of a
restoration project that will generate
sustainable, environmentally friendly energy
in Bukit Palong, Malaysia.
The power generation facility at Cypark has
a biogas power plant and waste-to-energy
plant.
The installation consists of two containerized
generator sets with two HGM 240 series
Dresser-Rand Guascor® gas generator sets
and the gas pre-treatment generator set,
including a gas analyser.
The plant was constructed to use the gas
from the landfill site to generate electricity,
which is then fed into the national grid.
