Depth filtration

nnnn

Surface filtration is achieved by a filtering

nnnn

medium (generally very fine) the pores of which

nnnn

are essentially smaller than the size of the

nnnn

particles to be trapped. Thus solid particles are

nnnn

retained by direct interception on the surface

nnnn

of the filtering medium. This filtration is very

nnnn

sensitive to preferential paths and can cause

nnnn

an escape of solids when the filtering medium

nnnn

breaks.

nnnn

On the other hand, in Fluytec depth filtration

nnnn

the filtering medium is thicker and its pores

nnnn

are smaller, equal to or greater than that of the

nnnn

particles to be retained. In this case, as well

nnnn

as direct interception, phenomena of initial

nnnn

impact and/or diffuse interception occur that

nnnn

allow particles smaller than the pores in the

nnnn

filtering medium to be retained.
