The LEG Bearin
Elment
06/2009
Dear Customers,
When Erich Franke developed the four-point bearing element in the 1930s, he probably had no idea of the huge impact his invention would have. His patent was the decisive factor in the subsequent founding of the Franke company and the principle upon which all products made by the company should be based. After all, our slogan "An invention prevails" is much more than a mere boilerplate. The four-point system has in fact prevailed - and nowadays forms the basis for Antifriction Bearings and Linear System with
Small, Compact and Simply Great
LEG, the new bearing element from Franke, does impressive work in the smallest mounting spaces
It all began in 2007 with a customer enquiry. This customer was looking for a particularly compact anti魭friction bearing for a gear. Since the basis of Franke's company philosophy lies in the production of custom-made individual compo-nents, the company accepted this challenge with a sense of ambition. The result: the double-ring, four-point bearing element, referred to as LEG.
To meet the customer's requirements for a very narrow bearing, a product was developed, which functions with two race rings instead of four. Yet the classic Franke principle - the four-point system - is maintained, because here, there are two race-
ways on a single race ring. The Gothic profile of the raceways is adjusted to the diameter of the ball, which means that the ball and the race rings have four points of contact. In addition to its extremely compact configuration, the impressive quality of the LEG lies in its low weight and simple assembly. Due to its 30° angle support, the bearing element is primarily suited to radial loads. The LEG can be used in any application which involves "tight spots". Since the development of the first bearing for the gear manufacturer, Franke has manufactured numerous additional prototypes - all exhaustively tested. The narrow bearing element is also in demand as a component of robot arms; here, it is built into the movable
axles. The four-point system warrants particularly high load capacity from all directions. It is also used in drive gears - or to be more precise, in directly-driven gears in which the motor is positioned directly in the
hub.
The major advantage of the LEG lies in its capacity to replace the leading grooved ball bearing and slim bearings practically anywhere and everywhere. This is not just an alterͭnative on grounds of cost savings, but also due to its variability, durabi-lity (no maintenance required) and its high quality. With the LEG model series, Franke now has a total of five model series for bearing elements.
