GUIDED BORING - 308A/339A SYSTEM
nnnnAkkerman's Guided Boring Machine (GBM) method, often
nnnnreferred to as pilot tube microtunneling, offers customers
nnnnextended and accurate drive lengths in various ground
nnnnconditions. The GBM provides the spoil removal process of
nnnnthe auger boring machine and the same level of accuracy as
nnnntraditional microtunneling—all in one compact, multifaceted
nnnnsystem.
nnnnThe 308A/339A Jacking Frames allows operators to install
nnnnpipe from an 8 or 9-foot (2.4/2.7 m) shaft. Our distinctive
nnnndual-walled pilot tube allows liquid lubrication throughout
nnnninstallation, thus minimizing jacking force and rotational
nnnntorque. A guidance system consisting of a theodolite and
nnnndigital camera, mounted behind the jacking frame, allow
nnnnoperators to view the illuminated LED target on a computer-
nnnncontrolled digital monitor in the launch pit, ensuring that line
nnnnand grade tolerances are met. The 308A/339A systems are
nnnnhydraulically powered with a P100Q or P150Q Power Pack and
nnnncontrolled with an in-shaft pendant.
nnnnThe guided boring method is typically a multi-step process.
nnnnFirst, pilot tubes, with a soil appropriate steering head mounted
nnnnon the front, establish line and grade. For non-displaceable
nnnnspoil, the Eliminator acts as the lead tool in the progression.
nnnnNext, the bore diameter is increased as the casings and augers
nnnnexcavate the soils. In the last step, the final product pipe is
nnnninstalled directly behind the casings and augers. As pilot tubes,
nnnncasings and augers, then final product pipe is installed and
nnnnadvanced, a section is removed from the reception shaft. This
nnnnprocess continues until the final product pipe is in place. If a
nnnnPowered Cutter Head (PCH) or Powered Reaming Head (PRH) is
nnnnused, it is placed behind the casings and augers and before the
nnnnfinal product pipe.The auger spoil flow is reversed toward the
nnnnreception shaft for removal. The PRH or PCH's rotating cutter
nnnnbits excavate the soil to the pipe diameter while minimizing
nnnnjacking force and accelerating the speed of the drive.
