nnnnBoth boards lower the cost of automation and meet the needs of large ATE
nnnn(automated test equipment) and machine automation applications.
nnnnThe KPCI-3130 Series is a family of two value-priced analog output boards
nnnnfor the PCI-bus: the KPCI-3130 and -3132. These boards are ideal for appli-
nnnncations requiring multiple analog outputs and control capabilities. Typical
nnnnapplications include semiconductor machine control, product testing, simu-
nnnnlation testing, and servo control. The KPCI-3130 provides eight channels of
nnnnindustrial grade analog output channels along with 32 high current digital
nnnnI/O channels designed for controlling solenoids, valves, actuators, or solid
nnnnstate relays. The KPCI-3132 offers two channels of wide resolution analog
nnnnoutput that can be used for driving chart recorders, programming power
nnnnsupplies, motor control, or applications where a precise voltage is needed.

nnnnFunctional Description
nnnnThe KPCI-3130 Series of Universal Analog
nnnnOutput Source boards provides a wide resolu-
nnnntion using a single ±10V range. With a universal
nnnnresolution of 19/xV, glitching problems normally
nnnnencountered when switching to different ranges
nnnnon conventional multi-range analog output
nnnnboards are eliminated with a single range. This
nnnnallows you to concentrate on the application
nnnnwithout worrying about the complications range
nnnnchange glitches cause.
nnnnMost conventional PC-based analog output
nnnnboards only provide you with a two-wire con-
nnnnnection as shown in Figure 1. For most applica-
nnnntions, this is more than adequate and will meet
nnnnyour application needs. However, when you
nnnnare required to run a cable over a long distance
nnnnbetween the source of the analog output and the
nnnnpoint where the analog output voltage must be
nnnnapplied, significant voltage drops can occur as
nnnnthe result of cable resistances, device intercon-
nnnnnections, and terminations; therefore, the pro-
nnnngrammed output value may not be the voltage
nnnndelivered at the point where the voltage is being
nnnnapplied (such as at the DUT [Device Under Test],
nnnnthe device being controlled, etc.).
nnnnTo correct the problem of voltage drops across
nnnnlong lead lengths, the KPCI-3130 Series allows
nnnnyou to connect the outputs in a four-wire remote
nnnnsensing mode, similar to what is used on conven-
nnnntional power supplies. The 4-wire remote sense
