OPTIMUM PROTECTION OF SENSITIVE PRODUCTS
PET PACKAGING SYSTEMS
Requirements and Solutions
An ideal packaging barrier must be impervious to
gases and substances. There must be no exchange
either between the filled product and the
environment or between the product and the
packaging itself. The Plasmax coating applied to
the inside of the bottles is therefore used to
optimize the barrier characteristics of PET bottles. It
enables the known advantages of PET packaging
to be also used for sensitive products, and
Key Features
High-quality and versatile barrier coating for PET
bottles. The inside wall of a PET bottle is coated
with a wafer-thin, fully transparent glass coating.
This barrier of silicon oxide (SiOx) gives the PET
bottle the good barrier characteristics of a glass
bottle. The Plasmax applies this coating in a
process comprised of several steps. Vacuum
chambers are loaded with bottles. When a vacuum
has been applied, a reaction gas mixture is
introduced. This is subsequently brought to the
Standard Equipment
· InnoPET Plasmax for container sizes of 100 ml to
1,500 ml.
· Neck-guided bottle conveying in the machine,
few format parts.
· Fully automatic machine monitoring and process
control for simple operation.
· High availability and efficiency in continuous
industrial operation.
· Plasmax+ process for enhanced flexibility and
resistance with all applications where the more
· In particular prevents the permeation of carbon
dioxide and oxygen through the PET bottle
· Thereby increases the shelf life of juices,
carbonated beverages, beer and wine as well as
liquid and solid foods
· Preserves the contents and flavor of the filled

severely stressed PET material requires this, and is
generally used for all products, especially where
pH values exceed 4.5.
