The Drum Works™ Monitor and Control System is an innovative

nnnn

easy to use, modular system for automatically monitoring spray

nnnn

guns and controlling nozzle pressure on steel industrial drum ap-

nnnn

plications. Providing valuable control and monitoring functions,

nnnn

the system can be used for two key drum finishing operations:

■ Exterior bottom lid coating is controlled and monitored

nnnn

with the basic DrumWorks technology.

■ Interior drum coating with a rotary atomizer is monitored

nnnn

using the DFC (Disc Flow Control) function in the Drum-

nnnn

Works system.

Interior Coating with Rotary Atomizer

nnnn

The new Nordson DrumWorks system also measures the volume

nnnn

of paint that flows through a rotary atomizer (or disc) used to

nnnn

coat the interior of industrial drums. With the Disc Flow Control

nnnn

(DFC) function, the system automatically alerts users of operation

nnnn

outside the desired parameters. Its modular design fits new coating

nnnn

lines, and is an easy retrofit to existing systems. The system can

nnnn

monitor one or two internal coating systems.

Master Control

nnnn

For both bottom lid and interior drum coating, the DrumWorks

nnnn

system incorporates an easy-to-use master control. It features a

nnnn

monochromatic touch screen that delivers real-time monitoring

nnnn

of settings, performances and alarms throughout the coating

nnnn

operation. This device provides several displays for operators

nnnn

to instantly view status of operating parameters, including

nnnn

■ Calibration and spray pressure for guns 1 and/or

nnnn

2 (additional guns optional) and DFC

nnnn

■ Spray time

nnnn

■ High/Low pressure band

nnnn

■ Alarms

Five languages can be selected on the touchscreen, including

French, German, Spanish, Italian and English.

Bottom Lid Coating

nnnn

The spray coating application on the external drum lid bottoms is

nnnn

typically difficult to control due to the location of the spray guns.

nnnn

Here, the guns are typically mounted in a hard-to-access position

nnnn

with overspray accumulating on the nozzle. The result is nozzle

nnnn

plugging or restricted flow, which adversely impacts the applied

nnnn

coating quality. In addition, because guns are hard to access, it

nnnn

also becomes difficult to determine when nozzles are worn. This

nnnn

results in excess coating application, causing increased material

nnnn

costs and quality issues. Drum manufacturers also experience lower

nnnn

productivity and increased costs due to improperly coated drums.

The new Nordson DrumWorks System monitors the paint pressure

nnnn

at the nozzle (single or dual gun) and automatically alerts users in

nnnn

the event of operation beyond the desired parameters. The system's

nnnn

modular design fits new coating lines, and it is an easy retrofit to

nnnn

existing systems with all models of Nordson* airless guns.
