Do/Ro
Dial Index-Ring Type
Description
Sankyo's Do Series ring indexer features cast iron housings with a large stationary center bore. The center and outer
rings can support stationary dials above or below the indexing dial. Since both inner and outer rings are the same
housing, the rigidity is sustained. The thin housing makes a small footprint and designed as the foundation for a
rotary assembly machine. Robots with other peripheral equipment are easily
mounted to this versatile unit. A globoidal cam rotates Sankyo made needle
bearing type cam followers. Optimizing the cam follower diameter inherently
maximizes torque transfer and extends the life hours due to fewer rotations with
increased surface contact. Indexing incremental stops range from 16 to 60 to
support large diameter dials from 2250 to 7200 mm (7.3 to 23.5 feet). This allows
plenty room for inspection stations between each subassembly. Multiple index
periods offer continuous or on demand duty cycles with the indexing ring locking
in position within 20 to 30 arc seconds during the dwell period. These versatile
units index in both directions or oscillate. The Ro Series can perform nonpatterned motions with a continuous lead cam using servo driven motor or provide
incremental stops less than 16. Most units are driven with geared motors that are within the height of the index unit
housing or Sankyo’s R series worm reducer as shown. Timing cam packages are available with inexpensive photo
beam sensors or proximity switches for wash down (IP67/NEMA-6/6P) applications.
Features
• 16 to 60 incremental output stops, 1-output stop equals 1-input shaft revolution promotes synchronization with
peripheral equipment while running continuous duty cycles
• Dial diameters range from 2250 to 7200 mm (7.3 to 23.5 feet)
• 90° to 330° index periods with modified sine cam curves
• Maximum 200 cycles per minute, bi-directional indexing, oscillating motions (non-patterned motions for the
servo driven Ro series)
• Accuracy – ±20 to 30 arcsec indexing and 20 to 30 arcsec repetitive
• Painted cast iron housings are available in 7 standard sizes (25, 30, 35, 45, 55, 65 and 80)
• Standard brushless dual voltage (230/460) gearmotors are UL & CE certified, optional R series reducers (as
shown), brake motor or wash down configurations are available
• Variable frequency drive controller utilizes electronic braking and variable speed for gearmotors in 115-1ph,
230-1/3ph, 460-3ph volts, 50/60 Hz, UL & CE certified
• Stop/start frequency up to 60~90 per minute (output load/reducer dependant), clutch brake or servo drives are
available
• Standard IP50 photo eye timing cam sensor package supplies dial “in position” signal to stop the motor, IP67
proximity type optional
Options
Standard timing cams are plastic with IP50 photo
eye sensors multiple sensor can interlock support
machine crashes (IP67 proximity sensors optional)
Variable frequency drives controllers use electronic braking to stop the
index motor consistently even if the speed is changed. Multiple speed
patterns can be used to jog for easy setup. E-stops can occur without
tripping the output torque limiter clutch due to the soft stopping feature.
Continuous duty cycles can be simulated while running
cycle on demand by lengthening the dwell time since the
speed can be changed on the fly with every cycle. Stop/start
cycles per minute depend on the reducer backlash/life and
the output load.
