VISCOTEK TRIPLE/TETRA
DETECTOR ARRAY (TDA)
The Viscotek TDA is a fully integrated detector containing refractive index, light
scattering and intrinsic viscosity detectors.
The refractive index detector is a deflective-type differential refractive index detector for
measuring the concentration of a dissolved sample in solution. The unique design
provides high sensitivity and the robust cell can handle higher backpressures than other
Rl detectors. This allows the Rl detector to be placed in series with the other detectors
for maximum sensitivity.

The light scattering detector contains a right-angle light scattering (RALS) detector for
the measurement of molecular weight of isotropic scatterers (<1 5nm radius) with
maximum sensitivity. It also contains a low angle light scattering (LALS) detector for
measuring the absolute molecular weight of anisotropic scatterers. The LALS detector is
the only true LALS detector available and measures at a lower angle than any other light
scattering system. By combining RALS and LALS data, the light scattering detector can
also calculate the radius of gyration.
The intrinsic viscometer is a 4-capillary wheatstone-bridge design for measuring the
intrinsic viscosity of molecules in solution. Combining molecular weight and intrinsic
viscosity data together allows Mark-Houwink parameters on molecular structure and
hydrodynamic radius to be calculated.
The TDA also has space for a flow cell for a UV-PDA. The cell connects to the external
detector via fiber optic cables.
All of the detectors and the UV cell are housed with the columns in an oven for
maximum temperature and detector stability.
