Competence
Grasping and moving things with the hands belongs to the
earliest sensations in life. Later in life the haptic sense also
offers an important opportunity, even if often unconscious, to
" grasp" the outside world.
The haptic characteristics of control elements, such as buttons,
rotary knobs, or shift levers, are thus very important for their
impression of quality. Questions such as " Is the keystroke
clear?" or " Do all the buttons on a keypad feel the same?"
must be objectively answered, e.g., with the aid of measuring
robotics.
Measuring robotics offers versatile, tested in practice solutions
for quantitative recording of haptic features. Using a robot not
only simple movements for pressing a button can be executed,
but also complex path curves, and force controlled movements,
with which force components can be constantly held or
minimized.
