Product and Process Description
1/1
SILOXA activated carbon adsorber MAKA model (mobile activated
carbon adsorber) for reducing hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in biogas plants
Safety features
– Stainless steel container (material No. 1.4301) reliably
and permanently retains its shape even at high operating temperatures or operating pressures
– All the components that come into contact with gas
are electrostatically dissipative.
– The system therefore complies with the ATEX requirementsfor using biogas and with TRBS 2153
(technical rules for operational safety: prevention of
ignition hazards due to electrostatic charges).
Relevance for the gas engine system

Product description
The MAKA insulated activated carbon adsorber is
made from stainless steel and is designed as a replaceable lter. This means that, to replace the used
activated carbon, the adsorbers do not need to be
emptied and relled with new activated carbon while in
situ on the biogas plant. The adsorber element is lled
with 700 or 1,100 litres of dopetac sulfo 100® activated
carbon for the removal of hydrogen sulphide (H2S). To
restore full cleaning performance, the whole adsorber
is simply replaced with a replacement adsorber containing new activated carbon. The adsorbers can be
changed in just a few easy steps, without special tools,
by the operator’s personnel. There is no direct contact
with activated carbon that contains contaminants.
Sizes/useful capacity
The MAKA is a replaceable adsorber available in two
standard sizes.
MAKA 700
700 l activated carbon
MAKA 1100
1,100 l activated carbon
– The lter system guarantees long service life of the
oxidation catalysts.
– Prevention of deposits in the combustion chamber
of the gas engine
– Reduced operating costs (e.g. longer life of motor oil)
– Clean gas improves the availability of the CHP
Consumption costs
– Activated carbon consumption is determined by the
H2S load and the gas quantity.
– Container is optimised for quick and easy replacement
Service
SILOXA has set up a logistics network covering the
whole of Europe for the delivery and collection of
returnable lters, which guarantees the prompt and
cost-effective supply of suitable replacement adsorbers
on request. The MAKA deposit systems use only watervapour-activated doped moulded activated carbon
with a nominal pellet diameter of 4 mm. This activated
carbon is produced using a new, patented manufacturing process based on charcoal. During the manufacturing process, catalysts for H2S removal are added
to the carbon. This manufacturing process guarantees
that the internal surface area of the carbon is almost
fully retained. Using this carbon reduces the plant
operator’s running costs because the activated carbon has 50 percent higher adsorber efciency than
comparable products.
MAKA design features
Issued: 08/2012, subject to technical modications.
– Cylindrical stainless steel container
– The adsorber is tted with internal heat insulation so
that no condensate can form on the container walls
at low ambient temperatures.
