In contrast to other jam and
nnnngap-type sensors which stop
nnnnmachine processes upon sens-
nnnning a back-to-back, no-gap con-
nnnndition, this SUPERPROX® mi-
nnnncroprocessor-based series
nnnn(Model SM505 through Model
nnnnSM575) of ultrasonic motion
nnnnsensors is rate sensitive. Even
nnnnwith a back-to-back, no-gap con-
nnnndition, the operator can, through
nnnnthe use of a rate potentiometer,
nnnnset the speed below which the
nnnnoutput switches off, causing the
nnnnparticular machine under control
nnnnto stop. Another potentiometer
nnnnenables the operator to set the
nnnntime delay desired to restart the
nnnnparticular machine under control
nnnnonce the resumed container
nnnnspeed is at or above the set rate.
nnnnThis time delay feature prevents
nnnnthe output from switching on pre-
nnnnmaturely when the container
nnnnmovement is momentarily at or
nnnnabove the set rate.
nnnnAvailable in either AC or DC
nnnnmodels, these self-contained
nnnnsensors can be positioned
nnnnthroughout the packaging line
nnnnand easily configured to auto-
nnnnmatically control the synchro-
nnnnnized starting and stopping of
nnnnconveyor lines and the starting
nnnnand stopping of the machines in
nnnnthe system. By allowing the
nnnnmachines to run longer before
nnnnshutdown due to a line backup,
nnnnand to start earlier once the
nnnnmovement begins, the result is a
nnnnsmoother, more efficient con-
nnnntainer handling system.
nnnnThese sensors can be used in
nnnneither single-file or mass-wide
nnnnconveyor operations with all types
nnnnof containers. As with all
nnnnSUPERPROX® sensors, a simple
nnnnpush-button is used to set the lim-
nnnnits within which the container mo-
nnnntion is monitored and detected.
nnnnIn single-file applications, con-
nnnntainer motion is monitored as
nnnnsoon as a back-to-back, no-gap
nnnncondition exists. In mass-wide
nnnnapplications, container motion is
nnnnmonitored when a container
nnnnmoves laterally to within 8 in. of
nnnnthe SUPERPROX® sensor.
nnnnIntroduction
nnnnThis SUPERPROX® sensor
nnnnseries detects the movement of
nnnneither plastic, glass, or metal
nnnncontainers as small as 38 mm
nnnn(1-1/2") in diameter on single file
nnnnand mass conveyors. By using
nnnnthe unique "window" sensing fea-
nnnnture with two potentiometers and
nnnna background target on the op-
nnnnposite side of the container,
nnnnmovement is reliably detected.
nnnnThe container pass line nearest
nnnnthe sensor and background tar-
nnnnget are the sensing references
nnnnrespectively for setting a fore-
nnnnground and background sensing
nnnnwindow.
