nnnnThe newest edition of the
nnnnVirtu™ ultrasonic sensor was
nnnndeveloped by Hyde Park to fea-
nnnnture pump-in/pump-out function-
nnnnality.
nnnnVirtu's dual-mount body style,
nnnnwith its M18 x 1 threaded snout
nnnn0.89" long and a 1.49" rectangu-
nnnnlar body for a total length of only
nnnn2.38", and tough VALOX® hous-
nnnning make it not only ideal for
nnnnmany OEM applications but also
nnnnan unfailing performer for an ar-
nnnnray of packaging applications, in-
nnnncluding food and beverage.
nnnnAvailable in cable or connector
nnnnstyle, Virtu is the first sonic com-
nnnnpact sensor to offer a dual
nnnnmounting feature, lit operates on
nnnn12 to 24 VDC and provides ei-
nnnnther a sinking (NPN) or a sourc-
nnnning (PNP) output. Virtu also has
nnnnteach-in window capability, and
nnnnno downtime is required for sen-
nnnnsor recalibration when colors,
nnnnmaterials, or shapes change.
nnnnWith protection ratings of
nnnnNEMA 4X (indoor use only) and
nnnnIP67, this CE certified sensor is
nnnnresistant to dust, 100% humid-
nnnnity, most acids and bases, and
nnnnhigh pressure washdowns that of-
nnnnten leave water buildup on the
nnnnsensing face. This sleek sensor
nnnnis virtually impervious to the ef-
nnnnfects of splashing food, caustic
nnnncleaning solutions, and changing
nnnnlight conditions or colors. Shield-
nnnning and filtering make the fully
nnnnencapsulated sensor resistant to
nnnnradiated or conducted energy.
nnnnOperation
nnnnThe Dual Level VM series is a
nnnnself-contained, pulse-echo, prox-
nnnnimity sensing device that both
nnnntransmits and receives sonic en-
nnnnergy within a 508 mm (20") maxi-
nnnnmum sensing range. Operating
nnnnon 12 to 24 VDC, and employing
nnnnthe latest piezoelectric and mi-
nnnncroprocessor technology, Virtu
nnnnsensors detect only those des-
nnnnignated objects within a set "win-
nnnndow" and ignore all surrounding
nnnnsonic interference.
nnnnPrior to operation, a simple and
nnnneasy "teach" function is used to
nnnnset the sensing window limits
nnnnthrough either a remote or inline
nnnncable push-button. A near and
nnnnfar limit for a desired sensing
nnnnwindow can be set anywhere
nnnnwithin the sensing range and may
nnnnbe set to either encompass the
nnnnfull sensing range or be as small
nnnnas 6 mm (0.25").
nnnnWhen selecting by model num-
nnnnber from several factory-pro-
nnnngrammed, dual-limit parameters
nnnn(near limit and far limit), the sen-
nnnnsor can be set up to perform an
nnnnon/off latch control function.
nnnnThe sensor is equipped with a
nnnntwo-color status LED to show the

nnnnber, regardless of whether the
nnnnoutput is normally open or closed.
nnnnWhen the output is not active, the
nnnnLED is green. The LED also
nnnnserves to show the sensing sta-
nnnntus of the sensor. With a normally
nnnnopen output and an object in the
nnnnsensing window, the LED will be
nnnnamber and switch to green when
nnnnthe object leaves the sensing win-
nnnndow, switching off the output.
nnnnWith a normally closed output
nnnnand an object in the sensing win-
nnnndow, the LED will be green and
nnnnswitch to amber when the object
nnnnleaves the sensing window, switch-
nnnning on the output.
