Proven technology and best-in-class
performance
The NID™ system is Alstom’s dry flue gas desulphurisation system with
multi-pollutant control properties and zero waste water discharge.
The system comprises a hydrator/mixer, J-duct reactor and typically a fabric filter.
The NID™ can be used with electrostatic precipitators as well.
In the J-duct reactor, acid gases like SOx, HCl and HF react with the hydrated lime,
produced on-line from quick lime. Once bound to the particulate matter, the gaseous
pollutants are removed from the flue gas in a downstream particulate collection device.
To further enhance the Hg collection, PAC can be injected. The collected particles
are recycled to the mixer where freshly produced hydrated lime and water are added
to the process.
The inclusion of the patented integrated hydrator/mixer eliminates the need for slurry
handling, simplifying the operations, maintenance and power requirements of the
process. The high rates of sorbent recycling also contribute to the low costs and high
efficiency of Alstom’s NID™ process.

Multi-pollutant control
SO2 removal: Up to 98% with competitive
lime stoichiometries. SO3 removal to less
than 1 ppm, and filterable PM to less than
0.012 lb / MBtu or 15 mg / Nm3. Hazardous
air pollutants removal efficiencies are
higher than conventional wet flue gas
desulphurisation.

Compact footprint
Occupying less than 50% of the footprint of
a comparable spray dryer, the entire NID™
system fits within the footprint of the fabric
filter making it ideal for retrofits where
space is limited. Square modules maximise
shop fabrication and are easily transported
over-the-road or by barge.

Modular design
Independent modules and a variable reactor
width allow exact matching to process
requirements. Excellent turndown of up to
50% per module with no flue gas recirculation
required at lower loads. High reliability
achieved through installed spare module. No
scale-up issues for large applications.

Low lifecycle costs
Among competing types of desulphurisation
systems, NID™ is usually the most cost
effective solution in terms of the capital cost
and operating expenses.
Water
Zero liquid discharge. Low water consumption.
Ability to use low quality water such as
cooling tower blowdown or WFGD purge.
