Combining clean fuel and renewables
The combination of a high efficiency gas fired
combined cycle plant together with a solar
thermal steam generator creates a new power
generation class – the ISCC.
The high efficiency CCPP can be used as a back-up
for the solar power when the sun is not shining.
With the solar contribution, natural gas consumption
can be reduced, lowering the environmental footprint
of the plant. (Fuel Saver mode)
At times of high demand, the solar steam can boost
electricity production while sharing the same plant
equipment, infrastructure and grid access.
(Solar Boost mode)
In the Alstom ISCC solution, the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) is located
in the centre of the solar plant, and the solar receiver itself is fully integrated in
the Water Steam Cycle (WSC) of the CCPP.
With the KA24/KA26 ISCC, ISCC efficiencies of above 80% can be achieved,
or specific CO2 emissions as low as 230-250 g/kWh.
In partload, up to 40% of the power can be produced from solar. At the maximum
combined-cycle load, up to 25% of the power comes from the sun.
The KA24/KA26 CCPP are the right platform for ISCC: With the high part-load
efficiency, solar power can be produced very effectively over the entire operation range.
